LONDON – Ancala Midstream Acquisitions has agreed to acquire Apache Beryl’s respective 30.28% and 60.56% stakes in the Scottish Area Gas Evacuation system (SAGE) and Beryl pipeline in the UK North Sea.
Assuming completion of the transaction next year and regulatory/third-party approvals, Ancala intends to appointWood Group as its operating partner.
Under Ancala’s stewardship, Wood Group will manage the day-to-day operation of the SAGE and Beryl pipeline systems, with Apache’s SAGE personnel transferring to Wood Group to ensure continuity of service.
SAGE transports gas through a 323-km (200-mi) pipeline between the northern part of the UK central North Sea and the SAGE terminal at St Fergus, 48 km (30 mi) north of Aberdeen, where it is processed on behalf of variousNorth Sea gas producers.
Jim Halliday will lead Ancala’s management team. He was previously BP’s vice president of Midstream and Partner Operated Assets, and head of Global Commercial Operations.
“Our aim in making this investment is to maximize throughput for all producers, extend the life of the system, connect new fields and support efforts to maximize economic recovery in the North Sea for many years to come,” Halliday said.
“Our priority through the transition period will be the continued safe operation of the plant and pipeline, regular and transparent engagement with all stakeholders and an efficient hand over of operations from Apache.”
Ancala Midstream is financed through funds managed by Ancala Partners.
