SHEFFIELD, UK – Servelec Controls has completed a live upgrade of a fire and gas detection and control system on an unnamed platform in the UK North Sea.

This involved upgrading a Wormald 2003B fire and gas detection and control system to the SCAME Sistemi S81-HS range of fire and gas equipment.

It was Servelec’s third successful offshore platform upgrade for the same equipment ranges, and more similar projects are planned.

In this case the company wanted to install a more cost-effective and reliable system that would minimize downtime on the normally unmanned installation.

Servelec claims its approach reduced conventional offshore engineering time by more than 40 man-days and resulted in a successful live transfer with zero platform downtime.

This in turn reduced the project’s capex and prevented any loss of revenue during the transfer period.
