ESBJERG, UK – Atex Management Services has contracted Semco Maritime to apply software supplied by SafeEx for inspection purposes on Maersk Oil’s Culzean project in the UK central North Sea.

The software will be used to perform initial Ex-inspections onCulzean’s living quarter platform, process platform, wellhead platform, and FSO.

It may be extended to mechanical completion and other maintenance and inspection tasks. The system will be integrated to Maersk Oil’s ERP systems SAP and technical completion system PIM360.

Semco market and business development manager Erik Grønborg said: “The advantage of the SafeEx Software is that [it] provides a uniform way to make inspections that increase safety and save 30-60% on man-hours.”

The tablet-based inspection and maintenance software are said to allow all routines to be performed in one procedure.

A standard platform may have 30-40 different checklists for inspections: the SafeEx Software converts these into electronic tasks which are conducted in guidance from the tablet using integrated layout drawings.

Each piece of equipment has a RFID chip installed, approved for Ex zone 1. This enables the software in the tablet to create an electronic time-stamp and a full electronic audit trail.

Following an inspection, all information is said to be instantly available online both offshore on for management onshore.
