ARENDAL, Norway – OMV Norge has awarded Sevan Marine a study on a potential cylindrical hull FPSO for the Wisting field development in the Norwegian Barents Sea.
Currently OMV is screening various floating alternatives forWisting, 310 km (192 mi) offshore in the northern part of the Barents Sea.
The study should be completed by year-end.
Statoil and Tullow Oil have agreed to a transaction that will make Statoil the largest holder in Wisting, to date the sole discovery in the Hoop area. The company already has a strong acreage position in this area and sees further exploration potential.
Jez Averty, Statoil’s svp for exploration in Norway and the UK, said: “We wish to contribute with our experience, competence, and technology to ensure an efficient and profitable development of the Wisting discovery.
“Statoil has developed new technologies such as theCap-X subsea concept and promoted industry cooperation through the Barents Sea Exploration Collaboration (BaSEC) in order to deliver safe and efficient operations.”
The transaction, which covers four Norwegian licenses, is as follows:
