ABERDEEN, UK – The semisubmersible Songa Delta has spudded the Njord North Flank-2 (NF-2) exploration well 6407/7-9 S in the Norwegian Sea for operator Statoil.

According to partnerFaroe Petroleum, the NF-2 prospect is in 323 m (1,060 ft) of water in license PL107C immediately north of the Njord field.

The well will target Middle and Lower Jurassic sandstone reservoirs of the Ile and Tilje formations in a fault-bounded structural closure, with a total depth in the Lower Jurassic Åre formation. A commercial discovery could add further reserves to theNjord Future Project.

Last month, Faroe conditionally acquired interests infive Norwegian producing assets from DONG including a 20% interest in the Ula field and associated production hub infrastructure.

There was a 30-day pre-emption period under which the partner in the Ula field could also have acquired the interest, but this period has now expired, so Faroe will proceed toward completion of the acquisition.
