SYDNEY, Australia – AWE says the jackupRaniworo has completed all operations relating to the Santos-operated AAL-4XST1 appraisal well in the Natuna Sea offshore Indonesia. The rig has since been released.
The well successfully drilled and intersected primary G Sand and secondary K Sand targets. Both reservoirs, said to be of high quality, were fully cored for further analysis.
In addition the crew conducted drillstem tests (DSTs) with oil flowing successfully to the surface in both cases, assisted by electrical submersible pumps (ESPs), which is standard procedure in heavy-oil fields due to the oil’s viscosity.
The second DST conducted in the K Sand over a 6.5-m (21.3-ft) perforated interval recorded initial oil flow rates of 1,120 b/d on a 64/64-in. choke, consistent with previous tests at AAL-3X.
However, mechanical failure of a downhole sand screen prevented the test from running to its conclusion and a stabilized flow rate was therefore not possible.
Following the mechanical failure, the DST continued for five hours with oil flow rates varying from 536-1,959 b/d. The partners decided nevertheless that they had sufficient data to meet all their objectives. After logging had been completed the well was P&A’d.
They plan further analysis of the data for use in their development plan studies for the G Sand reservoir, which could be developed in conjunction with the already approved K Sand development.
