North Sea Ivar Aasen enters final commissioning phase

Saipem has mated the Ivar Aasen topsides to the jacket at the field location in the central Norwegian North Sea.

TRONDHEIM, Norway – Saipem has mated the Ivar Aasen topsides to the jacket at the field location in the central Norwegian North Sea.

According to operator Det norske oljeselskap, theSaipem 7000 connected the 15,000-ton topsides without incident.

Sembawang Shipyard built the main part of the topsides in Singapore. The structure departed the yard on a Cosco vessel on June 6, arriving at the field one month later.

Theliving quarters, which had been lifted onto the deck prior to the final installation, were built at Stord, western Norway.

Last weekend a bridge was installed connecting the accommodation vesselProsafe Zephyrus with the platform, allowing Aibel to begin completion work in the run-up to first oil in December.

Up to 400 people will work on this program, according to Det norske.
