PERTH, Australia – Drilling is under way on the Outtrim East-1 well on Australia’s North West Shelf.
The location is in the offshore WA-155-P(1) permit, operated byQuadrant Energy.
According to partnerCarnarvon Petroleum, the main objective is to prove additional hydrocarbon bearing sands to the north and east of the hydrocarbon reservoir seen at the Outtrim-1 oil discovery.
The well is due to be drilled to an MD of around 1,300 m (4,265 ft), just above the Pyrenees formation which was oil-bearing in the Outtrim-1 well, 1 km (0.6 mi) away.
Following coring, the final section of the well will be drilled to a TD of 1,440 m (4,724 ft).
Carnarvon expects to be able to update recoverable volumes for the Outtrim and Outtrim East structures in a few months, following the receipt of laboratory tests.
