SALZBURG, Austria – Heerema Fabrication Group in Zwijndrecht has commissioned Palfinger Marine to supply two cranes for Statoil’s Oseberg Vestflanken 2unmanned wellhead platform in the Norwegian North Sea.
The remote-controlled facility will feature 10 well slots, with a Cat-J jackup performing development drilling.
Palfinger says it has developed a new-design crane for projects where the time interval between crane operations can be up to a year.
Its solutions are focusing on low maintenance frequency and quick mobilization of the crane after the storage period.
All critical equipment on the crane is protected from the environment, with no need to dismantle equipment from the crane before storage.
The concept is based on a fully electric crane, derived from experience from similar deliveries and from cranes supplied to windfarms, where there is similar low frequency-use to unmanned offshore installations.
