Kenz supplies replacement cranes for Aegir, Brent Alpha

ZAANDAM, the NetherlandsHeerema Marine Contractors has commissioned Kenz Cranes to design and manufacture two knuckle boom cranes.

These will replace the current cranes on the deepwater construction vesselAegir.

One of the new cranes will be a 200-ton active heave compensated knuckle boom system with a deepwater winch, suitable for 3,300 m (10,827 ft) of water and with an outreach of 50 m (164 ft).

The other will be a 50-ton crane with an outreach of 42 m (138 ft).

In the UK northern North Sea, Kenz expects to install a new boom hoist crane this summer onShell’s Brent Alpha platform.

The diesel hydraulically-driven crane (DHC 15/2200 boom hoist), built according to the latest EN 13852 regulations, includes special features such as a shock absorber and counter weight to remain within the existing pedestal forces.

It will replace a 30-year-old Link-Belt crane on the platform.
