STORD, Norway – Apply Leirvik has finished construction of the living quarters module for the Ivar Aasen platform in the central Norwegian North Sea.

The 2,300-ton, 3,300-sq m (35,521-sq ft), 40-m (131-ft) tall structure is on a barge in Stord harbor, western Norway.

It has seven floors supporting 70 single cabins, recreation areas, offices, hospital, control rooms, a helicopter deck, two lifeboats and a man-overboard boat.

Apply kept the weight down by constructing the lower 10 m (33 ft) from steel and the remaining upper 30 m (98.4 ft) from aluminium.

TheIvar Aasen topsides is currently in transit from Singapore to the North Sea. Once it has been set down on the pre-installed jacket and integrated with the living quarters, operator Det norske oljeselskap will aim to start production around early December.

TheIvar Aasen field, west of Johan Sverdrup, holds around 204 MMboe including the Hanz discovery.
