GSP to construct mooring barges for Aasta Hansteen spar

GSP Shipyard has an agreement with Norwegian company SL Mekaniske to build four tension mooring barges for Statoil’s Aasta Hansteen project in the Norwegian Sea.

CONSTANTA, Romania – GSP Shipyard has an agreement with Norwegian company SL Mekaniske to build four tension mooring barges for Statoil’s Aasta Hansteen project in the Norwegian Sea.
These will assist the inshore mooring installation system of the field’sspar platform.
The 14.5 x 20 x 3-m (47.6 x 65.6 x 9.8-ft) tension barges will be equipped with a system for tensioning and lock off chain. DNV GL will supervise operations which are due to be completed by the end of October.
Aasta Hansteen’s spar will be the first in Norwegian waters and the largest ever built with a total hull length of 195 m (640 ft).
Technip is the engineering, procurement, construction and transportation contractor for the hull and mooring systems and is also responsible for design of the steel catenary risers.
