CAIRO, Egypt – Eni has discovered another potentially large gas accumulation in the “Great Nooros Area” offshore Egypt in the East Nile Delta.
The Baltim SW-1 exploration well was drilled by operatorPetrobel, a joint venture between Eni subsidiary IEOC and state-owned EGPC, in 25 m (82 ft) of water, 12 km (7.5 mi) from the shore and 10 km (6.2 mi) north of the producing Nooros field.
It reached a TD of 3,750 m (12,303 ft) and along the way penetrated around 62 m (203 ft) of net gas pay in high quality Messinian sandstones.
According to BP, the other partner in the concession, Baltim SW is along the same trend of Nooros, which underwent a fasttrack development following discovery last July and is currently producing 65,000 boe/d.
Eni estimates resources found in the area now total 70-80 bcm in place.
The partners are already assessing options for a swift development of this latest find via existing infrastructure.
Appraisal will continue, with two more wells lined up in the area.
