KØPERVIK, Norway – A reception terminal for Norwegian offshore gas has been inaugurated at Emden on Germany’s North Sea coast.
Frode Leversund, CEO of Norwegian trunklines operatorGassco, said: “The new terminal ensures gas supplies to Germany for many decades to come and strengthens Norway’s role as a key energy supplier to the European market.”
The facility, covering 12,000 sq m (129,167 sq ft), has a daily throughput capacity of 34.1 MMcm. It replaces the Norsea Gas Terminal, which started operating in 1977, receiving supplies from theEkofisk field.
It will receive much of the Norwegian gas delivered to Germany through theNorpipe pipeline.
TheGassled joint venture decided to build the new terminal in fall 2012, selecting an unused part of the existing terminal site. Linde Engineering Dresden began construction a year later.
Although the project has not increased export capacity for Norwegian gas, the new terminal’s functionality is tailored to meet future demand for processing gas from the Ekofisk area and other parts of the Norwegian continental shelf.
