EDINBURGH, UK – The drillship Ocean Rig Athena will demobilize after completing the final well of its current campaign offshore Senegal.
Currently the rig is P&A’ing the Cairn Energy-operatedSNE-4 appraisal well following drilling, coring, and logging.
This was designed to appraise the eastern extent of the 2014SNE field discovery and to confirm the nature of the upper reservoirs in the oil zone.
Cairn’s initial analysis is that the results confirms the extension of reservoirs more than 5 km (3.1 mi) east and downdip of SNE-3, and that the oil-bearing Upper Reservoir sands are of similar quality to those encountered as gas bearing elsewhere in the field.
Drilling delivered a gross oil column of around 100 m (328 ft), similar to SNE-1, SNE-2, SNE-3 and BEL-1, with initial indications of similar 32° API oil quality as seen across the field.
This was the partnership’s fourth well off Senegal this year as part of a program to help delineate the shape of the structure and establish deliverability.
After integrating data from the four wells, including two drillstem tests and more than 600 m (1,968 ft) of core, the partners hope to determine the most effective way to further appraisal and evaluate development options, Cairn added.
SNE-4 was drilled in 942 m (3,090 ft) of water, 85 km (53 mi) offshore in the Sangomar Offshore block, to a TD of 2,944 m (9,659 ft) below sea level. Gauges will be set in the well to allow for future monitoring of the upper reservoirs, along with those already installed in SNE-3.
Cairn operates in partnership with ConocoPhillips, FAR, and Petrosen.
