SYDNEY, Australia – Tap Oil’s board has approved the company’s participation in the Sri Trang-1 exploration well in the G1/48 concession in the northern Gulf of Thailand.
OperatorMubadala Petroleum expects the jackup Atwood Orca to start drilling the well, 18 km (11 mi) north-northeast of the Manora oil field, in mid-May.
The main objective is a mid-Miocene lacustrine sands target with secondary targets in late-Miocene fluvial sands.
According to Tap, a successful test of the mid-Miocene sands should validate the hydrocarbon prospectivity of the Northern Kra basin and de-risk dependent prospects immediately to the west.
The shallow-water well has a planned MD of around 2,590 m (8,497 ft) and should take 10 days to drill.
A discovery could lead to the addition of a production platform to the Manora complex.
