OSLO, Norway – Statoil Petroleum has discovered oil from one of two wildcat wells near the Oseberg field center in the North Sea.
The semisubmersibleSonga Deltadrilled wells 30/11-11 S and 30/11-11 A in 106 m (348 ft) of water in license PL035/272, respectively 2 km (1.2 mi) southeast of the 30/11-9 A Askja East discovery, and 35 km (22 mi) southwest of Oseberg South.
According to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate, 30/11-11 S encountered a 25-m (82-ft) oil column in the upper part of the Tarbert formation, of which 22 m (72 ft) had moderate to good reservoir properties.
The other well was dry. Both will be permanently P&A’d.
Songa Delta will next drill the 30/11-12 S exploration well in the same license and potentially 30/11-12 A, if the result warrants appraisal.
