PERTH, Australia – Carnarvon Petroleum expects the Ocean Monarch to spud the Roc-2 appraisal well offshore Western Australia between June and September.
The program will include flow testing and a coring program to assist planning for future field development.
Roc-1, drilled in January, discovered gas and condensate. Early analysis suggests gas and condensate can be recovered to surface and this should be confirmed by a flow test in Roc-2.
The well will target the interpreted crest of the Roc structure, in order to determine the extent of contingent and prospective resources.
Carnarvon estimates the minimum economic field size for Roc at around 325 bcf and 17 MMbbl.
At the base of Roc-1, there were promising hydrocarbon shows from the Milne sandstone section. Roc-2 well will likely also test the extent of these deeper hydrocarbons.
Recently, Carnarvon acquired 28.5% of the WA-155-P(1) permit containing theOuttrim-1 oil discovery and the Outtrim East prospect. There is potential for tiebacks of any commercial finds to be developed as a cluster.
Operator Quadrant Energy plans to drill the Outtrim East-1 well this June, targeting oil in the same Pyrenees Member that delivered oil from Outtrim-1.
The well will also target upside opportunities in the Birdrong sandstone and the Mardie Greensand, where oil was discovered in the nearby Corowa field.
