WOODBRIDGE, UK – London Marine Consultants (LMC) has contracted Amarinth to supply a vertical sump pump for mounting on the bow of the FPSOPioneiro de Libra.
LMC has a $110-milion EPC contract to supply an external turret mooring system for the floater, a conversion of the Suezmax tankerNavion Norvegia, for an extended well test on the Libra field in the Santos basin, 230 km (143 mi) offshore the coast of Rio de Janeiro.
The turret is under construction at the Triyards shipyard in Vietnam, and will be integrated with the FPSO atJurong Shipyard in Singapore.
During design of the turret LMC established the need for a wash-down sump facility with drains pump. However, high seas in the operating region meant the wash-down sump, located in the bow of the vessel, would be subject to submersion.
Amarinth worked with LMC to design an appropriate solution, modifying its T-Series vertical sump pump to be fully IP66 rated, defined as “dust tight and protected against heavy seas or powerful jets of water.”
The IP66 rating covered the pump, motor and transmitters and the control panel which was also open to the elements. Level transmitters were installed to automatically start the pump when the sump has filled, pumping the water to the cleaning package before its return to the sea; and to switch off the pump once the sump has emptied.
