ZURICH, Switzerland – ABB and Aker Solutions have decided to integrate their technologies in subsea production, power, and automation.
This, they say, will enhance how production equipment on the seafloor is powered and controlled from shore or platforms, leading to lower costs and allowing economic production at fields far from existing infrastructure.
Peter Terwiesch, president ofABB’s Process Automation Division, said: “Power and automation are crucial to improving the effectiveness of compression, boosting, and other solutions for increasing oil and gas recovery from subsea fields.”
Alan Brunnen, head of Aker Solutions’ subsea business, added: “Together we will further hone our focus on developing technologies for greater and more sustainable hydrocarbon recovery and help customers reduce costs by making existing subsea solutions more effective.”
The cooperation follows long-standing joint programs that led, for instance, to last year’s delivery of theworld’s first subsea compression system for the Åsgard field in the Norwegian Sea.
Initial focus areas will include improved subsea compression systems at lower costs.
The partnership, based in Oslo, Norway, will target opportunities globally.
