ABERDEEN, UK – The Advanced Forming Research Centre (AFRC) has agreed to join a new oil and gas consortium involving the High Value Manufacturing Catapult and the Oil and Gas Innovation Centre (OGIC).
AFRC is venture involving the University of Strathclyde, Scottish Enterprise,the UK government, and various multinational engineering firms. Its focus is on forging and forming techniques that can produce metallic parts with higher standards of structural integrity.
OGIC, based in Aberdeen, will engage with the oil and gas industry and pursue cross-industry collaboration and innovation. Its main aims are to stimulate knowledge exchange and research activities and foster an environment to support the next generation of business innovators, academics, and entrepreneurs in Scotland.
The Manufacturing Technology Centre, Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, and the National Composites Centre are also offering their expertise to the oil and gas industry.
They hope to give companies in the industry access to capabilities that can help reduce component costs, shorten supply chain lead times, explore new production methods, and enhance materials to extend the life of component.
