    Heydar Aliyev drilling program extended at Shah Deniz

    BP Exploration has extended Maersk Drilling’s contract for the semisubmersible Heydar Aliyev by a further five years until May 2021.

    LYNGBY, Denmark – BP Exploration has extended Maersk Drilling’s contract for the semisubmersible Heydar Aliyev by a further five years until May 2021.

    The rig is drilling development wells on theShah Deniz field in the Caspian Sea offshore Azerbaijan. Estimated value of the extension is up to $523 million.

    Heydar Aliyev (ex-Maersk Explorer), delivered in 2003 is designed for year-round operations in water depths ranging from 40-1,000 m (147-3,280 ft).
