STAVANGER, Norway – Statoil has contracted Samsung to build the decks for the process and riser platforms for the Johan Sverdrup field in the central Norwegian North Sea. Value of the order is NOK 7 billion ($890 million).
Aker Solutions was earlier awarded engineering work and purchase of equipment packages for the two decks.
The 26,000-metric ton (28,660-ton) process platform will ensure stabilization of the oil and processing into rich gas.
The 22,000-metric ton (22,451-ton) riser platform will serve oil and gas exports, water and gas injection, and any future connections. A power cable to be laid from mainland Norway will also run to this platform, which will have facilities to transform direct current into alternating current for further distribution to the field center.
All contracts for the four platform decks have now been awarded. Aibel and Kværner Stord are responsible for the drilling platform and accommodation platform decks.
To date, 65% of the equipment packages have been awarded to suppliers with Norwegian billing addresses.
Statoil estimates investment costs for Phase 1 of Johan Sverdrup at NOK 117 billion ($15 billion), with recoverable resources of 1.4- 2.4 Bboe. The partners are aiming at a recovery rate of 70%.
