Heerema’s construction vessel Thialf has lifted the steel jacket for the Ivar Aasen platform onto the seafloor at the field location in the central Norwegian North Sea.
The Saipem-built jacket, 137 m (449 ft) high and weighing 8,900 tons, is in a water depth of 112 m (367 ft). The jackupMaersk Interceptor will soon begin pre-drilling over the top of the jacket, which will be mated next year with the platform deck, under construction at the SMOE yard in Singapore.
Det norske expects first oil from the Ivar Aasen field on the Utsira High in late 2016, reaching peak production of around 75,000 boe/d. The field has an anticipated lifespan of 20 years.
