GUILDFORD, UK – Alpha Petroleum has issued an update on its development plans for the Cheviot field and surrounding area in the UK northern North Sea.
The company has upgraded Cheviot’s reserves to more than 75 MMboe and selected an FPSO for the development, which will also take in the Jurassic Padon gas field and the Palaeocene Peel and Poppy oil fields.
Longer term, Alpha expects Cheviot to serve as an infrastructure hub to some of 20-plus nearby discoveries and prospects with potential resources of around 150 MMbbl.
Additionally, Alpha Petroleum awardedXodus Group a pre-front-end engineering and design (FEED) study. Results from this work will be incorporated into the field development plan and environmental statement to be submitted to the UK’s new Oil and Gas Authority in September.
It will also form the basis for the full FEED tenders to be issued toward the end of this year, with a winner likely to be announced during 1Q 2016.
Alpha’s goal remains to achieve project sanction by 1Q 2017 followed by first oil in 2020.
In support of this process, the company has recruited three new senior project team members covering disciplines from subsea infrastructure to FPSO delivery.
