HOUSTON –At the Offshore Technology Conference in Houston, Baker Hughes featured the POWERJump flowline booster system, which is the first technology released as a part of its Subsea Production Alliance with Aker Solutions.
Baker Hughes’ Business Development Director for the Subsea Production Alliance, Ian Ayling, said that the technology was based on Baker Hughes’ own electrical submersible pumping systems. The POWERJump subsea flowline boosting systems are designed for one or two well applications with flow rates up to 30,000 b/d.
Describing POWERJump toOffshore as “elegantly simple,” Ayling said that POWERJump is lightweight and modular, which helps with delivery time and allows it to fit into different architectures, tying in to all different connection systems. Additionally, it can be changed out as quickly as a vessel can be mobilized.
“We found a gap in the market where you can’t scale big systems down to cover the lower flow rate opportunities,” Ayling explained. “We needed to provide lift in a cost-effective manner. It’s a fasttrack solution; it takes less than a year to complete the system.”
Ayling said that Baker Hughes had the patent for the technology for 10 years, but that it was the alliance with Aker Solutions that allowed the product to be realized in a span of about six months of the alliance’s announcement.
