HOUSTON – Rockwell Automation features its AADvance controller at the Offshore Technology Conference in Houston.
The control, which has been used by NOV on top of its BOP units, also can be used in separation, transmission, tree and manifold control, and ROVs. It can also control compression operations on the seafloor in water up to 10,000 ft (3,048 m) deep.
The controller has multiple redundancy units, and in NOV's case, there are two controllers atop the BOP. The controls are connected to the topsides unit via fiber optics.
"It monitors the information and cantake action automatically, should something happen," Luis Gamboa, oil and gas market development lead for Rockwell Automation, told Offshore.
Gamboa explained that Rockwell Automation took the technology existing in the AADvance controller and repurposed it to serve another function.
