ABERDEEN, UK – Parkmead has issued an update on its exploration programs in the UK North Sea.
Last November the company gained six new licenses spanning nine offshore blocks in theUK’s 28th Licensing Round.
Blocks 20/3c and 20/4a are in the Outer Moray Firth basin, 20 km (12 mi) east of the Buzzard field and southwest of the Perth field. They include two Buzzard sandstone oil discoveries, Polecat and Martern.
Polecat was discovered in 2005 and appraised in 2010, the well testing 4,373 b/d. The Marten discovery well in 1984 encountered three oil-bearing sandstones of Upper Buzzard age.
Block 14/25a is thought to contain a possible extension to the adjacent Perth oil field, named Perth West. Another prospect has been identified on the block at Lower Cretaceous Scapa level.
Blocks 15/11 and 15/16f are 12 km (7 mi) north of the Perth field and close to the large Tartan and Piper oil fields. The Fynn and Penny oil prospects have been identified in the Upper Jurassic Piper formation.
Elsewhere in the UK central North Sea, block 30/17e is adjacent to Parkmead acreage containing the Skerryvore prospect in the Central Graben area. Mapping and seismic analysis suggests the Skerryvore Chalk prospect extends into block 30/17e.
The company says a site survey has been completed offshore, providing detailed technical information on a location for a potential well on Skerryvore, which could hold up to 122 MMbbl of recoverable oil.
Block 16/22d contains two prospects at Palaeocene and Devonian level, 10 km (6 mi) northeast of the Britannia and Alba fields.
Parkmead’s other new license is in the southern gas basin, and covers two blocks adjacent to the company’s existing license that includes the Farne prospect. There is potential for an extension of Farne into the new acreage.
