HOUSTONProSep has launched an Industry Technology Facilitator (ITF) joint industry project (JIP) with Qatar Petroleum and Petroleum Development Oman.

Under the 12-month project, which started in December, the parties will collaborate to develop an offshore-capable unit for oil-in-water removal and media regeneration usingProSep’s Osorb Media produced water treatment technology.

The technology adsorbs free, dispersed, and water soluble hydrocarbons, as well as many oilfield chemicals from produced water. ProSep will evaluate Osorb Media’s performance over repeated capture and regeneration cycles on customer-specified water streams.

Ultimately the JIP will lead to integration of a commercial unit into the target process stream for an extended trial, with the unit in commission for three months. The subsequent goal is full adoption of the technology into the field.

“This project marks the first truly collaborative ITF-sponsored JIP between two national oil companies in theMiddle East,” said Patrick O’Brien, CEO of ITF. Ryan McPherson, general manager, Middle East for ProSep, added that the technology provides benefits in treatment of produced water for reinjection or discharge.
