CALGARY, Canada – Sterling Resources says Shell’s Crosgan appraisal well 42/15b-3 in the UK southern North Sea has reached 8,401 ft (2,561 m) TD.
The well intersected gas-bearing sands in the Carboniferous Yoredale Formation with 35 ft (10.7 m) of pay in the targeted Whitby sandstone and a further 26 ft (8 m) of pay in various shallow sands within the overlying upper Carboniferous section.
It also encountered a gas-down-to deeper than the gas-water contact observed in the offset 42/10b-2z well drilled in 1995. However, the Whitby formation was 265 ft (81 m) deep to prognosis and the sand thickness was less than expected.
On completion of logging the well will be P&A’d. Sterling has a 30% interest in the Crosgan license.
