OSLO, Norway – BP has approval from Petroleum Safety Authority Norway for use of gas lift at the Valhall IP platform in the southern Norwegian North Sea.
Valhall, an oil field in 70 m (229 ft) of water, was originally developed with accommodation, drilling, and production platforms. In 1996, BP added a wellhead platform (Valhall WP) with slots for 19 extra wells.
All four facilities are linked by bridges. A water injection facility was installed centrally on the field in 2003.
Increased water production is likely as a result of the water injection, and gas lift is needed to maintain stable production from the wells at IP.
