OSLO, Norway – BP has authorization from Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) Norway to extend the use of the Valhall field DP and PCP platforms in the North Sea beyond their expected lifespans.
The operator plans to retain DP as a wellhead platform until the wells are decommissioned, plugged, and closed down. The PCP production platform is no longer active but the company wants to use it as a support for the bridges between the DP and WP facilities.
PSA’s consent, which applies until end-December 2023, was given on certain pre-conditions relating to load analyses and manning criteria.
However, PSA’s rejection of BP’s application to also extend use of theValhall quarters (QP) platform remains in force, due to concerns over seabed subsidence.
