ESBJERG, Norway –DNV GL has secured a multi-million-pound project from Maersk Oil North Sea UK for work on the Culzean field development.
The scope includes Independent Competent Person (ICP) Verification, Independent Verification Body (IVB), Pressure Equipment Directive (PED), and the Explosive Atmospheres Directive ATEX services. The team will be managed from a single point in the UK, and DNV GL is to use additional resources and expertise from the team in Denmark.
The Maersk Oil-operated Culzean project is one of the largest gas discoveries of recent years in theUK North Sea. Culzean is a high-pressure/high-temperature (HP/HT) field discovered in 2008 in block 22/25 of the UK Central North Sea and further appraised between 2009 and 2011. If successfully developed, it could provide around 5% of the UK’s total gas consumption by 2020/2021. First gas from the project is expected in 2019.
Maersk Oil and its co-venturersJX Nippon Exploration and Production (UK) Ltd. and Britoil (BP) have chosen a new stand-alone facility to develop the discovery; a complex of bridge linked platforms comprising a 12 slot wellhead platform, a central processing facility, and utilities/living quarters. Subject to a final investment decision in 2015, a phased installation of the facilities would begin in 2016.
