LONDON – SOCO EPC has discovered oil in the Marine XI block offshore the Republic of Congo (Brazzaville).
Exploration wellLidongo X Marine 101 (LXM-101) encountered oil in a clastics sequence in the Djeno sand formation. Drilling shows and early log interpretation indicate a gross interval of around 50 m (164 ft).
The location is 23 km (14 mi) northwest of Pointe Noire in 45 m (147 ft) water depth.
The well was drilled to a TD of 2,665 m (8,743 ft) after penetrating the target hydrocarbon zone. Analysis of logs over the hydrocarbon zone suggests petrophysical parameters in line with those published for theLitchendjili field on the adjacent Eni-operated Marine XII block.
Owing to the tight nature of the reservoir sands a 20-m (65.6-ft) section will undergo testing after a 7-in. liner has been set and cemented.
Testing, which will include a stimulation frac, is expected to last around three weeks.
SOCO EPC’s partners in the block are WNR, SNPC, AOGC, and PetroVietnam.
