RIO DE JANEIRO –Petrobras and its consortium announced that the drilling of the first extension well in the Libra area, known as well 3-BRSA-1255-RJS (NW1), has proven the discovery of high-quality oil in the northwest portion of the structure.
The oil-bearing interval in well NW1 was observed by means of fluid profiles and samples, and will be further analyzed. The well is still being drilled, which is currently at a depth of 17,474 ft (5,326 m), and drilling will continue until TD of 19,193 ft (5,850 m).
The consortium will complete the well to verify the extension of the discovery and to characterize the conditions of the reservoirs found.
NW1 is situated in the presalt area of the Santos basin, at about 106 mi (170 km) off the coast of the state of Rio de Janeiro and about 2 mi (4 km) southeast of the discovery well, 2-ANP-2A-RJS.
