Polarcus Asima to survey gas leads in Otway basin

MELBOURNE, Australia3D Oil (ASX: TDO) has contracted the Polarcus Asima to acquire the Flanagan 3D seismic survey in the T/49P permit in the Otway basin offshore southeast Australia.

Work on the survey should start in November.Origin Energy will share the mobilization costs, as it is using the vessel to record a separate survey.

3D Oil and partnerBeach Energy have a commitment to acquire 755 sq km (292 sq mi) of 3D data. The concession covers an area of 4,960 sq km (1,915 sq mi) in water depths mostly limited to 100 m (328 ft). There is existing 2D coverage, which has recently undergone reprocessing and remapping, and two exploration wells were drilled in 1967 and 1970.

The Flanagan survey is designed to mature various leads in the northern part of the block that are adjacent to the Thylacine and Geographe gas fields where in-place gas totals more than 2 tcf. The leads include Whalebone and Flanagan leads, which have a combined best estimate resource of 7.8 tcf.
