DUDLEY, UK – Exova has won a contract to provide material selection and qualification, and mechanical/ corrosion testing for downhole tubulars to be deployed in Maersk’s Culzean development in the UK central North Sea.

The testing program will replicate the sour andultra-high-pressure/high-temperature (uHP/HT) subsurface conditions found in the Culzean field. Mechanical tests will characterize the properties of the materials; and autoclave corrosion testing will also be conducted, the aim being to select the optimum material and qualify suppliers/manufacturers.

Phil Dent, technical manager at the Exova Corrosion Centre, said: “TheCulzean field operating conditions are particularly harsh in terms of corrosion, due to the combination of temperature, pressure, and chloride concentration.”
