CNR signs Murchison platform removal contract

AF Gruppen subsidiary, AF Decom Offshore U.K. and Heerema Marine Contractors Nederland SE have contracted with CNR International (U.K) to remove and dispose of the Murchison platform.

OSLO, Norway – AF Gruppen subsidiary, AF Decom Offshore U.K. and Heerema Marine Contractors Nederland SE have contracted with CNR International (U.K) to remove and dispose of the Murchison platform.

TheMurchison oil field straddles the UK/Norway median line, with the platform located in UK waters, east of the Shetland Islands. The steel jacket platform, one of the largest in the North Sea, was installed in 1980 and ceased production in March 2014.

The consortium will be responsible for engineering, preparation, removal, and disposal of the topsides and jacket, with a total weight of around 37,000 tons. Engineering work starts now, to be followed by the offshore campaign in early 2016, with the removal and final disposal work continuing through 2020.

Disposal work will be performed in the UK and at the AF Environmental Base in Vats, Norway. Contract value for AF Gruppen’s scope is NOK 700 million ($108 million).
