HONG KONG – CNOOC has what it describes as a potentially large oil discovery in shallow water in the Bohai Bay offshore China.
The Jinzhou 23-2-3 well was drilled on the Jinzhou 23-2 structure in the north part of the Liaodong Uplift, where average water depth is around 10 m (33 ft).
It encountered oil and gas pay zones with a total thickness of 68.4 m (224 ft). During testing, the well flowed around 260 b/d.
CNOOC says the result demonstrated that the structure belt has very high reservoir quality, with further exploration upside in this part of Liaodong Uplift.
