TORSHAVN, Faroe IslandsCentrica has discovered gas in the Pegasus West structure in the UK southern North Sea, according to partner Atlantic Petroleum.

Logging-while-drilling and wireline data indicates the presence of gas in the 43/13b-7 well. Following the analysis of cores and other data, the P1724 license joint venture has decided to drillstem test the well.

TheParagon 391 jackup is drilling the well in 95 ft (29 m) of water, 7 km (4.3 mi) west-southwest of the 43/13b-6Z Pegasus North discovery well, and near the producing Cavendish field. The target was in the Carboniferous.

Atlantic CEO Ben Arabo said: “If testing is successful, this will help to de-risk a future Pegasus development. We are now unlocking the potential of our UK southern gas basin acreage and will be adding further wells in the area 2015.”
