STOCKHOLM, Sweden –Lundin Petroleum AB has completed appraisal well 16/4-8s in the Luno II project. Around 1,640 ft (500 m) of gross sandstone section were encountered in the Jurassic/Triassic age. A gross oil column of 98 ft (30 m) was proven, underlying a thin gas cap, with pressure data indicating a barrier towards the discovery well 16/4-6 s.
The main objectives of the well 16/4-8s were to confirm the reservoir properties and petroleum potential of the Central South segment, the operator stated. Lundin acquired data and samples of the reservoir, including conventional coring and fluid sampling.
A production test was carried out in the oil zone, producing at a rate of 450 b/d through a 28/64-inch choke. Reservoir properties were lower than expected in this part of the structure, Lundin stated.
The revised gross contingent resource range for Luno II is estimated atbetween 27 and 71 MMboe.
Drilled by theBredford Dolphin semisubmersible, the well will be permanently plugged and abandoned.
The Luno II discovery is situated about 9 m (15 km) south of the Edvard Grieg field in the North Sea.
