OSLO, Norway – CNR International (UK) has awarded the Heerema-AF Gruppen consortium a letter of intent (LoI) to remove and dispose of the Murchison platform in the UK northern North Sea.
Partners in the consortium are AF Gruppen and Heerema Marine Contractors Nederland SE.
Murchison is an oil field straddling the UK/Norway median line that ceased production in March 2014. The steel jacket platform, installed in 1980, was one of the largest in the North Sea.
The LoI relates to a contract forengineering, preparation, removal, and disposal of the topsides and jacket, with a total weight of roughly 37,000 tons. Engineering is expected to start this year, with offshore work beginning in early 2016 with removal and final disposal work continuing through 2020.
