CALGARY, Canada –Drilling has started on the A08 production well for the Breagh Phase 1 gas development in the UK southern North Sea, according to partner Sterling Resources.

The target structure is 1.8 km (1.2 mi) northeast of the RWE-Dea operated Breagh Alpha platform, between the A03 and A05 wells. Sterling expects A08 to encounter the better qualitysandstones present in the field’s northeastern areas of the field; however, there are contingency plans to side track and multi-stage hydraulically fracture stimulate the well if it encounters a poorer quality reservoir.

Two more wells (A09 and A10) and possibly two side tracks and/or hydraulic fracture stimulations could follow next summer, depending on whether the partners secure a drilling rig and stimulation vessel.

Following completion of A08, the jackupEnsco 70 will head to the Crosgan field in block 42/15a, 25 km (15.5 mi) northeast of the Breagh field to drill an appraisal well southwest of the 1995 discovery well 42/10b-2z.

Sterling, which is 30% partner in the Crosgan license, also expects to participate in an exploratory well later this year on the Beverley prospect in UK block 22/26c.

Next year the company is lining up four offshore exploration wells, one on the Niadar prospect in UK southern block 49/18b and three in theRomanian sector of the Black Sea (one in the Luceafarul block and two in the Muridava block).
