CNPC completes exploratory drilling in South China Sea

China National Petroleum Corp. has completed drilling and exploration off the Xisha Islands in the South China Sea.

Beijing –China National Petroleum Corp. has completed drilling and exploration off the Xisha Islands in the South China Sea. Hydrocarbons were detected in the project, known as the Zhongjiannan Project, and the company will assess collected data to decide the next step.

CNPC has drilled two exploratory wells of the Zhongjiannan project this year, using the drilling platform HYSY-981,provided by China Oilfield Services Ltd. The rig will relocate to operations in the Hainan Islands.

The operator did not perform test operations because July is the beginning of the typhoon season.
