West of Shetland semisubmersible prepares for sea trials

BERGEN, Norway – Odfjell Drilling’s new semisubmersibleDeepsea Aberdeen underwent a naming ceremony last week at the construction yard in Okpo, South Korea.

Following sea trials in July and August, the contractor expects to take delivery of the rig in October/ November.

From OkpoDeepsea Aberdeen will sail to Singapore and Mauritius, Cape Town, and Las Palmas before heading north to the west of Shetland region to start a seven-year drilling contract for BP in 1Q 2015.

The rig is a sixth-generation ultra-deepwater/harsh environment semi of enhanced GVA 7500 design.
