ABERDEEN, UKSubsea 7 has contracted BMT Scientific Marine Services to supply the riser monitoring system for the Statoil-operated Aasta Hansteen spar platform in the Norwegian Sea.

The system will include ROV-deployed strain, motion, and position sensors to monitor steel catenary riser (SCR) response in the touch down zone. Data acquired by the riser monitoring system will serve to validate the spar and the SCR design.

This will be the first spar operating offshore Norway and the world’s largest to date. It will also be the first deepwater floating production platform installed north of theArctic Circle using SCRs.
