STAVANGER, Norway – Statoil has completed an upgrade of the Oseberg B drilling facilities in the Norwegian North Sea. Drilling from the new equipment starts next month.
This and similar programs at Gullfaks B and Snorre A should add extraproduction of 180 MMbbl of oil.
Statoil’s goal is to extendOseberg’s productive life by 25 years compared with original plans; Gullfaks B’s to 2032, and Snorre A’s to 2040.
Two years ago the company upgraded the Statfjord B and C drilling facilities as part of theStatfjord Late Life project, converting the platforms from oil to gas producers. Work was done while both platforms were in full production.
The Oseberg C and Veslefrikk platforms have also been upgraded.
Across the Norwegian sector the company is targeting a recovery factor of 60% from its fields. “We want to see more of this type of modifications in the time ahead,” says Ivar Aasheim, Statoil’s senior vice president for field development.
