HOUSTON – Baker Hughes plans to feature its newly released Harpoon cut and pull spear at the 2014 Offshore Technology Conference in Houston on May 5-8.
The tool is designed for casing removal during P&A and slot recovery operations. The Harpoon can be set and reset multiple times which allows multiple cut-and-pull attempts on a single trip, says Baker Hughes. It runs with a cutting assembly and does not require a stop ring so it can contact the casing directly above the cut.
FLEX-LOCK slips are used to distribute the load evenly over the casing diameter to prevent deformation and a built-in filter helps control debris, says Baker Hughes.
Addressing safety, Baker Hughes says Harpoon has a pack-off device that controls circulation paths and provides well control if the cutting exposes a pressurized zone.
