COSCO secures contract with Derwent Ocean for offshore jackup rig

COSCO (Dalian) Shipyard Co. has secured a $184-million contract from Derwent Ocean Ltd. SA, part of Foresight Group, to build a jackup drilling rig based on the LeTourneau Super 116E Class design.

SINGAPORECOSCO (Dalian) Shipyard Co. has secured a $184 million contract from Derwent Ocean Ltd. SA, part of Foresight Group, to build a jackup drilling rig based on the LeTourneau Super 116E Class design.

The rig will be built to ABS classification, with notation A1, and will be a self-elevating drilling unit capable of drilling high-pressure/high-temperature wells. With drilling depths of up to 30,000 ft (9,144 m), the rig will be capable of operating in 350-ft (107-m) depths, with accommodation for up to 120 persons on board.

The rig is scheduled to be delivered in 3Q 2016.
