OSLO, Norway – Petroleum Safety Authority Norway has sanctioned use of the jackup Maersk Innovator to drill and complete two wells at Ekofisk 2/4-M in the southern Norwegian sector.
Ekofisk, discovered in 1969, is around 280 km (174 mi) southwest of Stavanger. Water depth at the site is 73 m (239 ft).
OperatorConocoPhillips plans to start drilling in June, with a total duration of roughly 30 days.
Another Maersk jackup,Maersk Giant, is to P&A Centrica’s Butch East exploration well 8/10-5S in license PL405 in the same region. The targeted sandstones in the Upper Jurassic reservoir of the Ula formation failed to deliver hydrocarbons.
Centrica is hoping to prove more reserves in the area of its 2011Butch discovery, in 65 m (213 ft) of water and close to the Ula and Tambar complexes.
Maersk Giant will next drill a separate segment at the Butch South West well.
